The DHD Living Lab offers a unique platform for developing innovative solutions at the intersection of design, technology, ethics, and healthcare. I am particularly motivated by how technological innovations are combined with human needs to create holistic digital health projects.
At the core of our work is a human-centered, interdisciplinary approach that is essential for unlocking the full potential of technologies in healthcare. Innovations often fail because they don’t sufficiently address the diverse needs of different user groups or the complexity of existing systems. Through evidence-based, participatory design processes, we create impactful solutions that seamlessly integrate into existing structures and significantly improve the daily lives of people across the healthcare system. A valuable outcome of this work is the generation and dissemination of new knowledge.
The DHD Living Lab provides us with a space to work in a reflective and interdisciplinary environment. Ongoing collaboration with experts and the active involvement of target groups enable us to develop sustainable healthcare technologies. This form of collaboration not only leads to better solutions but also fundamentally shapes our understanding of health, illness, and technology.
Personally, I am involved in many of the projects represented at the DHD LL. For example, I work on the role of AI in medical contexts, the design and evaluation of tools for health-related decision-making, the use of Extended Reality in movement-based rehabilitation and in sports, and the development of game-based learning and intervention approaches. I am particularly interested in how digitalization transforms the interaction between humans and technology, and how we can optimally shape these interactions through design.
