While advance directives (AD) have legal support and clinical value, completion rates are low. This project sought to better-understand motivational strategies for AD completion by uniting a multidisciplinary team. A literature review was conducted, which led to the identification of themes, obstacles, enabling factors, motivational strategies, and framing target groups based on an understanding of the need for differing strategies per different demographics. Three fictional individuals were drafted to further explore possible interventions that might serve as the basis for future research. Next steps involve evaluating these hypothetical interventions for impact, ethical valency, feasibility, and alignment with DHDLL goals to then, potentially, develop a prototype for a strategy to increase engagement with AD that can be further tested.
