Ice hockey is a fast-paced sport where collisions frequently lead to severe head injuries. Every year, around 100 players in the top two Swiss men's leagues suffer a concussion – and the numbers in youth hockey are equally alarming, with an even higher number of unreported cases. Unexpected collisions from blind spots are particularly dangerous.
This is where «Brain-Buddy» comes in: an LED warning system that alerts players to impending collisions using light signals. It enhances perception and reaction time, addressing a crucial gap in training. The technology can also be applied to other contact sports.
In the next development phase, «Brain-Buddy» will be enhanced with high-precision sensors and continuously optimized through testing with youth players from the GCK/ZSC Lions organization. The goal is to create an essential tool for improving safety and health in youth sports.
